Job Title: ESOL Instructor

Salary Range: $52,000-55,000

About the Position

The ESOL Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and training to adult learners. This role involves planning and executing classes, administering examinations, and collecting and recording data on student progress. The ideal candidate will integrate a holistic, student-centered approach to instruction and prepare students to become work-ready.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct instruction in ESOL, vocational ESOL, digital literacy, digital equity, and citizen test preparation.
  • Integrate work readiness content and digital literacy into regular instruction.
  • May teach other subjects depending on suitability and center needs.
  • Use effective, student-centered teaching practices and follow competency-based curriculum.
  • Create lesson plans to meet the needs of diverse learners, including the integration of educational technology.
  • Provide tutoring support and feedback to students.
  • Collaborate closely with case managers and employment specialists to ensure a holistic approach to the student experience.
  • Responsible to support, advance, and contribute to a DEI framework.
  • Collaborate with students, staff, and managers to implement student-centered DEI initiatives.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and develop and deliver presentations.
  • Administer examinations.
  • Maintain student records and data to track student progress and retention.
  • Maintain enthusiasm and commitment to helping students learn.
  • Provide job search assistance to students, including resume and cover letter writing.
  • Support the Site Manager and other staff in outreach and case management.
  • Present special lectures, seminars, and workshops as requested.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Work on special projects as needed.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices through awareness and observation in support of a safety culture; report any potential hazards or accidents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

  • Education: Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Science, or related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education. Master's Degree preferred, but lived experience and international experience considered in lieu of traditional US credentials.
  • Experience: Minimum two years teaching/training experience working with adult learners.
  • Experience with remote instruction a plus.
  • Multilingual skills a plus.
  • Success in simplifying and communicating complex ideas and tasks.
  • Experience teaching/training students with no formal education.
  • Must be flexible and able to work in a diverse environment.
  • Must be committed to creating a learning environment that is inclusive, culturally rich, and bias-free.
Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations
  • TESOL or comparable certification preferred. Will consider lived and work experience as an alternative.
  • WA teaching certification or equivalent a plus.
Computer/Technology Skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Proficient knowledge of Google Workspace a plus.
  • Ability to learn new technology and software as related to the job.
Physical Abilities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to sit for long periods, communicate with other employees by talking and hearing, and operate computer systems. Able to safely lift/push/pull up to 25 lbs., grasp, handle, finger, and manipulate items; perform repetitive fine motor functions with fingers, wrists, and arms, standing for long periods. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Able to communicate with others effectively both verbally and written, including those with limited English skills. Maintain reliable attendance.

Work Environment

Office/classroom environment; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position requires occasional travel to other locations for offsite meetings and events.
