Position: Science and Social Studies Educator

Overview

This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt role reporting to the School Leader. Our program caters to middle school students, while our instructional approach also encompasses foundational material suitable for younger learners. Many students arrive at our academy significantly behind their peers academically. The role of the science and social studies educator is pivotal in equipping students with essential skills to achieve grade-level proficiency by the time they transition to high school. This educator will collaborate with a dedicated team focused on mutual growth through shared learning experiences and coaching.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging science and social studies lessons using diverse instructional methods tailored to accommodate various learning styles and language proficiency levels, adhering strictly to the approved curriculum.
  • Establish trauma-informed connections to enhance the learning experience.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote respect and positive reinforcement.
  • Exhibit exceptional instructional capabilities that inspire and challenge students.
  • Track student progress and provide support for those with individualized education plans (IEPs) and other specific needs.
  • Identify and teach essential skills that contribute to student development.
  • Encourage students to cultivate intrinsic motivation for learning.

Essential Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of full-time teaching experience, preferably in an urban educational setting.
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Teaching certification is advantageous.
  • Experience in reading instruction is preferred.
  • Proven ability to create and sustain a warm yet structured classroom environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the subject matter with evidence of student achievement.
  • Must possess citizenship, residency, or a work visa in the United States.
