The Street Maintenance Crew Member engages in unskilled and semi-skilled tasks, which include compacting, installing, leveling, and finishing various materials. Responsibilities also encompass the construction and upkeep of roadways, sidewalks, and storm drainage systems, alongside performing rigorous manual labor. The role involves working with materials such as concrete, asphalt, gravel, dirt, bricks, and grout.Major Duties and Responsibilities

- Safety: Awareness of OSHA, City, and Federal regulations, as well as applicable safety precautions.
- Communication Skills: Ability to convey and comprehend information effectively.

- Physical Abilities: Proficiency in various physical tasks including lifting, carrying, and operating machinery.

Preferred Qualification
- Familiarity with computer applications, including typing and spreadsheet management.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid driver's license required at the time of hire.
- Ability to obtain a City Driving permit upon hire.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must pass a reference check, background check, medical examination, and drug test.
Conditions of Employment
The City of Charlotte mandates background checks for all candidates. This includes reference checks, social security verification, education verification, and criminal record checks. Candidates must provide written authorization for background checks and must comply with all federal and state regulations.
Final candidates will undergo a pre-employment drug screening and physical examination. Additional assessments may be required during the selection process.
