Key Responsibilities- Efficiently operates ultrasound machinery to conduct general, vascular, and cardiac imaging procedures. Demonstrates the ability to distinguish between normal and abnormal findings.
- Reviews patient medical histories to gather essential clinical data, including lab results and physician directives, ensuring the accuracy of examinations.
- Positions patients appropriately and selects the correct transducer and technical settings to capture precise ultrasound images, prioritizing patient safety and comfort.
- Utilizes advanced sonographic skills to identify, document, and modify procedures as necessary based on anatomical and diagnostic information.
- Accurately labels images with patient identifiers, including name and medical record number, ensuring proper documentation.
- Maintains compliance with regulatory standards and enters patient and imaging data into the radiology information system, ensuring accurate billing documentation.
- Identifies and reports equipment performance issues, collaborates with relevant staff, and assesses new technologies for potential implementation.
- Analyzes sonographic results, synthesizes clinical information, and communicates findings to the appropriate medical personnel.
- Exhibits knowledge and skills essential for providing age-appropriate care, understanding developmental principles across the lifespan.
- Must obtain Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with Abdomen within 3 months unless exempted by department leadership.
- Must obtain Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with OB/GYN within 3 months unless exempted by department leadership.
- Must obtain Vascular Technologist (RVT) registration within 3 months unless exempted by department leadership.
- Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 6 months.
- Completion of an accredited program in Sonography beyond high school is required.
- No prior experience is necessary.
- Proficiency in general and vascular sonographic procedures performed in the department.
- Ability to utilize independent judgment to accurately assess imaging results.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques and effective communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing environments.
- Must be capable of performing physical tasks such as lifting, standing, and walking throughout the workday.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and carry up to 40 lbs. over a reasonable distance.
- Must have clear speech, vision, and hearing capabilities.
