Every day, an increasing number of architects, engineers, contractors, developers, and property owners select Wells' precast building components for their construction projects. To support our ongoing success, we are eager to welcome a driven and proactive Civil Engineer to our Engineering team.
Starting Salary: $65,000 or more, based on experience, education, and skills. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:The initial phase of the Wells Engineering Development Program (EDP) will immerse you in quality assurance, a critical element of engineering at Wells. Our commitment to precision and quality distinguishes us from our competitors.
- Collaborate with Quality Control (QC) technicians at the plant.
- Learn to conduct physical tests on concrete in the laboratory.
- Familiarize yourself with entering pre/post pour data in Concrete Vision (CV), our internal production database.
- Complete and pass the American Concrete Institute (ACI) field I Test check forms during pre-pour.
- Begin to understand mix designs, finishes, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and performance metrics.
- Successfully complete Precast Concrete Institute (PCI) I/II certification.
- Work proficiently with mix designs and finishes.
- Pour samples and utilize NCR/metrics to address root causes and drive continuous improvement.
- Conduct site visits to identify issues, report findings to operations, and assist in developing new processes and procedures.
- Contribute to the creation of new metrics aimed at reducing NCR occurrences.
Upon completion of the Quality Control phase, you will have the chance to engage with our Field Services division.
- Shadow a senior field supervisor and assist in project layout.
- Interpret blueprints and communicate work plans to the crew.
- Use surveying equipment to ensure proper vertical and horizontal alignment of products.
- Coordinate daily with dispatch regarding load times and sequencing.
- Oversee the installation process on job sites.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise.
- Prepare weekly progress reports.
- Assist field operation managers with early job site visits to discuss start dates, crane and truck access, and project concerns with clients.
- Source necessary construction equipment and materials for project completion.
- Efficiently coordinate mobilization to subsequent sites.
- Adhere to bracing procedures and job-specific plans on all projects.
- Support laborers and operators in completing tasks.
The final segment of the Wells EDP will provide hands-on experience in engineering design.
- Collaborate with Wells Design Engineers to create precast concrete products for diverse projects, acquiring invaluable skills.
- Engage in FLEXURAL DESIGN (Hollowcore, Double Tees, and Beams) and wall panel design, focusing on load capacity and handling.
Upon completion, you will be well-prepared to take the PE exam and pursue your Professional Engineer license.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- A valid driver's license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle are necessary.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Must be physically capable of lifting up to 75 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to push, pull, lift, bend, climb, kneel, twist, squat, crawl, and use hands/forearms repetitively and frequently.
- Must be able to move around for up to 12 hours per day.
- Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, and man lifts at various heights frequently.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Jobsite visits may require adherence to safety protocols, potentially involving exposure to harsh weather conditions.
- Moderate to high risk of exposure to unusual elements and safety hazards.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round is essential.
