A postdoctoral research opportunity is available in the laboratory of Dr. Hrish Kulkarni, a NIH-funded facility within the UCLA Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care. We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to investigate how local innate immune responses, particularly the complement system, influence the severity of bacterial pneumonia. The primary aim of our research initiative is to explore how proteins derived from epithelial cells can be utilized to reduce the risk of acute lung injury across various scenarios, ultimately aiming to alleviate the burden of end-stage lung disease.
Our lab employs cutting-edge technical approaches, including conditional knockout mouse models, primary epithelial cell cultures, flow cytometry, ELISA, molecular biology techniques, biochemistry, cell and tissue culture, as well as fluorescence and confocal microscopy, and DNA/RNA sequencing.
Eligible candidates must possess a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences. The project encompasses both in vitro and in vivo experimentation at the intersection of immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, and microbiology. Proficiency in standard cell biology techniques and murine in vivo models is essential, along with experience in microscopy and flow cytometry. Familiarity with molecular biology or structural biology is advantageous but not required.
The shared values of the DGSOM are reflected in the Cultural North Star, which was developed by our community members and emphasizes our unwavering commitment to integrity, improvement, and kindness. These principles guide our actions and interactions. For more information about this significant DGSOM initiative, please refer to our resources.
