We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Behavioral Health Technician I to join our team at Akron Children's Hospital. As a key member of our behavioral health unit, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care and support to children and adolescents.
Key Responsibilities- Data Collection and Assessment: Collect and contribute to the assessment, planning, intervening, and evaluation of individualized care and plans of care for assigned patients.
- Direct Patient Care: Provide direct care to patients according to hospital policy and procedure, as delegated, and as a team with licensed RNs.
- Therapeutic Activities: Facilitate or co-facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic activity groups effectively, and plan and participate in educational, social, and recreational activities for individuals and groups of patients in accordance with treatment plan goals.
- Documentation: Document in the medical record according to established policies.
- Activities of Daily Living: Encourage patients to perform or assist them in the performance of activities of daily living.
- Environmental Safety: Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, and care for patients and self by supporting safety in the workplace.
- Communication: Maintain ongoing communication with the treatment team and charge nurse regarding observations of patients' medical and behavioral symptoms and the care provided.
- Crisis Management: Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches.
- Unit Environment: Take initiative to ensure that the unit environment is maintained, and provide instruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN.
- Cultural Diversity: Demonstrate understanding of cultural diversity.
- Proactive Safety Rounds: Conduct proactive safety rounds throughout the units, monitoring the milieu, and conduct environmental safety rounds each shift and document/report any unsafe conditions as well as any security violations.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree for counseling, psychology, social work, or related degree, or nursing is preferred.
- Certification: BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required.
- Experience: 0 to 2 years' experience in healthcare is preferred.
