Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Child Care Education Specialist to join our team at Trinity United Church of Christ Child Care Centers, Inc. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in early childhood education and a passion for leading and developing a team of educators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and develop teachers, teacher assistants, and volunteers to ensure they meet the standards and goals of State Pre-K.
  • Conduct feedback and coaching sessions with teaching staff to improve their skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure staff is providing age-appropriate care and education for each age group.
  • Model best practices for teaching, critiquing, and writing lesson plans/curriculum.
  • Schedule teachers and teacher assistants for in-services and provide on-the-job training.
  • Recommend or initiate referral procedures for children with special learning needs or other issues.
  • Communicate and establish relationships with parents through daily contact, in-services, meetings, orientations, and educational sessions.
  • Orient children and parents to the classroom and address parent concerns in a timely manner.
  • Prepare for, conduct, and document parent/teacher conferences.
  • Share knowledge gained through observations and interactions with children to plan for future learning and growth.
  • Attend staff meetings, parent meetings, and in-services, training sessions, and approved career development seminars.
  • Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, federal, state, and city regulations, and licensing requirements.
  • Review performance evaluations, goal setting, and staff development plans on a periodic basis.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • Level 5 Early Childhood Education Credential in Gateways.
  • Three years of early childhood experience in the classroom teaching environment.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence, and read and interpret documents.
  • Ability to perform basic math and compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Knowledge of various software programs such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with community members and groups, managers, regulatory agencies, and families.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to supervise and manage staff efficiently and effectively within the guidelines of Trinity Child Care policies and mandates.
  • Ability to organize and manage time effectively.

Confidentiality and discretion are essential for this role. The successful candidate will respect the privacy of information about others and maintain confidentiality at all times.

This is a full-time position that requires the ability to work in a clean, well-lit area and lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The incumbent must also be able to stand, stoop, bend, and carry children, sit without back support for 15-20 minutes at a time. Travel to other Trinity UCC Child Care Centers and/or other offices/sites in the Chicagoland area may be required.
