Job Overview

The Medical Interpreter plays a crucial role in facilitating communication between Circle of Life patients, their families, and healthcare staff. This position is essential for ensuring that Limited English Proficient individuals receive the necessary support and resources.

Key Responsibilities

Interpretation Services:

  1. Deliver Spanish interpretation, along with any other relevant languages, as needed.
  2. Ensure accurate and timely face-to-face and telephonic interpretation for patients, families, and healthcare personnel.
  3. Provide written translations to aid in the creation of health education materials, including brochures and videos.
  4. Translate correspondence between physicians and patients effectively.

Quality Assurance:

  1. Maintain high standards of service and foster positive interactions with all stakeholders.
  2. Clarify Circle of Life health resources and office procedures to patients and families.
  3. Support patient follow-up efforts as required.
  4. Coordinate interpreter services for foreign languages and sign language.

Administrative Duties:

  1. Keep the interpreter database updated to comply with organizational guidelines.
  2. Assist in organizing interpretation services for community events and presentations.
  3. Contribute insights to committees and groups regarding communication needs.
  4. Collaborate with Circle of Life affiliates to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Patient Support:

  1. Help develop written materials specifically for Spanish-speaking patients and families.
  2. Exhibit compassion, empathy, and patience in all interactions.
  3. Represent Circle of Life positively within the community.
  4. Demonstrate adaptability and a constructive attitude when taking on additional responsibilities.
  5. Perform other assigned tasks as necessary.
Qualifications

Must possess fluency in English and other languages, both spoken and written, at a superior level. A strong customer service orientation and a minimum of five years of experience as a medical interpreter with an extensive medical vocabulary are required.

Work Schedule

Standard hours are Monday through Friday, with the possibility of after-hours and weekend support as needed.
