Role Overview:
This position is pivotal in translating Japanese game content and related documents into English. A solid understanding of localization processes is crucial, and the ideal candidate should value the significance of localization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grasp the localization philosophy of the Pokémon brand and adhere to it while incorporating feedback from colleagues and supervisors.
  • Exhibit adaptability to new processes and tools, seeking guidance from senior team members.
  • Translate and proofread in-game text for video game products, trading card games, and associated materials.
  • Collaborate with localization team members to ensure high linguistic quality and cultural relevance, maintaining consistency and alignment with the developers' vision.
  • Engage in projects as part of a closely-knit team, becoming knowledgeable about our products through extensive playtesting and research to ensure accurate translations that reflect context.
  • Contribute cultural insights during development meetings with fellow localization professionals.
  • Maintain consistency in terminology usage and adhere to various text type requirements, including length constraints and other technical specifications.
  • Interact regularly with translators, editors, and localization project managers, providing progress updates to in-house management.

Qualifications:

  • 3-4 years of experience in translating from Japanese to English.
  • Near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Comfort with troubleshooting new software and a quick learner of specialized technical programs.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
  • Experience in gaming (either playing or translating) is essential; familiarity with Pokémon games is advantageous.
  • Experience with trading card games (either playing or translating) is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with Trados or MemoQ is beneficial, but any CAT tool experience is valuable.
