Aircraft Painter Job Description

The Aircraft Painter is responsible for coating the surfaces of aircraft with paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin, or other materials, using brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other devices. This role requires the ability to remove old paint from aircraft using liquid paint remover and scrapers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform all preparatory work, including obtaining supplies and equipment, setting up ladders and scaffolds, and covering items with drop cloths and tape.
  • Prepare surfaces by mechanical means, such as scraping, wire brushing, masking, spackling, and sanding.
  • Clean, degrease, and remove all oil and wax buildup from surfaces.
  • Mask and cover portions of surfaces not to be painted.
  • Mix, thin, blend, match, tint, and tone coating materials following specific oral and written directives and specifications.
  • Apply coating materials such as primers, paints, varnishes, and shellacs, using standard application techniques and ensuring that the coating finish meets surface protection requirements.
  • Perform fluid flushing and air vacuum cleaning of aircraft fuel tanks.
  • Remove fuel tank braces for access to hard-to-reach areas.
  • Remove anti-leak sealant and polyurethane paint material from fuel tank inner surfaces.
  • Paint insignia, letters, or numerals on aircraft surfaces using stencils.
  • Assist higher-grade mechanics with cleaning of aircraft parts using solvents and other cleaning solutions.

Requirements:

  • Two or more years of recent experience (within the last 10 years) in paint preparation, painting, sanding, and scuffing, career field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work site.

Preferred Requirements:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Two or more years of experience with aircraft, ground support equipment, and allied component surfaces.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of preparation and painting of aircraft, support equipment, and allied components.
  • Knowledge of aircraft and/or company forms required by work requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with good decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:

  • Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds. Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices.

Hourly Rate: $31.12 an Hour (Hourly to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
