Position Overview
The Emergency Response Technician plays a vital role as part of a collaborative healthcare team, delivering urgent and emergent care in alignment with the mission of Children's Hospital Colorado. Under the guidance of the EMS Medical Director and in coordination with attending physicians, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff, the technician operates within established protocols and training standards.
Department Details
Department: North Campus Emergency Department - Urgent Care
Job Status: Full-time - 72 hours per pay period
Shift: Night shift from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM (Eligible for night shift differential)
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent, completion of an accredited Emergency Medical Technician program (options include EMT with IV certification, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, or Military Medic training).
- Experience: Preferred one year of relevant experience.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers, with valid certification prior to start date.
- State of Colorado Emergency Medical Technician certification.
- IV Certification is required for EMTs; not necessary for AEMTs, Paramedics, or Military Medic graduates.
Key Responsibilities
The technician may be tasked with a variety of essential functions, including but not limited to:
- Utilizing critical thinking and sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.
- Preparing patients for healthcare visits by guiding them to examination areas and providing necessary materials.
- Documenting patient information and medical interventions accurately.
- Performing delegated medical procedures such as administering medications, taking vital signs, and assisting in emergency care.
- Communicating any significant changes in patient conditions to the medical team.
- Supporting healthcare providers during examinations and managing laboratory specimens.
- Educating patients and families through clear instructions and addressing inquiries as directed.
- Maintaining compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
- Participating in departmental training and cross-training initiatives.
- Managing medical supply inventory effectively.
