Job Summary

Covenant Health (Tennessee) is seeking a highly skilled Inpatient Coding Auditor and Educator to join our team. As a key member of our coding and compliance department, you will be responsible for performing complex internal coding audits, providing education and training to inpatient coders, and serving as a resource to coding, CDI, and quality teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coding Audits and Education
    • Identify and evaluate company risk areas and develop coding auditing procedures to ensure compliance with documentation and reimbursement guidelines.
    • Work with coders to educate and provide feedback, proactively training staff and responding to issues.
    • Review and analyze information published by CMS and the OIG to ensure compliance with coding, billing, and reimbursement regulations.
    • Perform research and analysis of ICD-10 and ICD-10-PCS coding to optimize reimbursement and ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance payers.
    • Communicate the results of coding audits and consulting projects to coding management, audit committees, and other departments as appropriate.
  • General Responsibilities
    • Maintain professional growth and development through continuing education, seminars, and applicable professional affiliations to stay informed of industry trends.
    • Recognize situations that necessitate supervision and guidance, seeking and obtaining appropriate resources.
Requirements
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum Experience: Three to five years of experience in acute care coding, both inpatient and outpatient, and/or physician practice.
  • Licensure Requirements: Certification in a field of study, such as RHIT, RHIA, AAPC, CPC, or CPMA.
