Chemical Regulatory Engineer
The Chemical Regulatory Engineer plays a pivotal role in leading and providing technical expertise to ensure adherence to international regulations, laws, and directives concerning the chemical composition of products. Acting as a liaison, you will collaborate with our global teams and suppliers to promote awareness and understanding of chemical compliance requirements, while also identifying and implementing effective compliance strategies. You will establish and maintain processes to monitor upcoming regulations and assess their potential impact on chemical restrictions or prohibitions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Development:
- Create a comprehensive plan for collecting and maintaining data related to chemical components in products.
- Act as a technical advisor for incorporating chemical compliance regulations into both new and existing product designs and processes.
Collaboration and Leadership:
- Engage in ongoing collaboration with Engineering and Supply Chain Management, as well as industry organizations, to contribute to regulatory and standardization efforts.
- Build and nurture collaborative relationships with essential business stakeholders.
- Participate in relevant committees within industry groups.
Regulatory Compliance and Support:
- Maintain and organize a comprehensive database of all relevant regulations, laws, and directives pertaining to chemical and environmental compliance that impact the company’s products.
- Contribute to project teams focused on implementing alternative chemical substances.
Innovation and Process Improvement:
- Assist the organization in navigating chemical compliance activities such as product labeling, reporting, and registration.
- Propose innovative solutions for data analysis and effective communication of requirements to stakeholders.
- Oversee contractors providing maintenance support for chemical compliance initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (Chemical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Aeronautical, Electrical, or Environmental).
- 5-10 years of relevant experience (advanced degrees or specialized skills may substitute for some experience).
- Willingness to travel, typically less than 25%.
- Experience in project management with a focus on technological solutions.
- Familiarity with Business Intelligence & Analytics and internal database systems.
- Ability to design and analyze data collection and analytical processes.
- Proficient in Internal Database Solutions, such as Microsoft SharePoint and Teams, with strong computer skills.
- Understanding of design, manufacturing, and procurement processes.
- Capability to review project outputs for quality, completeness, and compliance with established standards.
- Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse and distributed teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Information Material Data Systems (IMDS), Compliance Data Exchange (CDX), or Assent Compliance, or similar systems.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, directives, and standards related to product chemical compliance.
