Hartsville, United States Sonoco Full time

At Sonoco, we have evolved from a small family-owned business into a leading global entity in the packaging industry, all while upholding our core belief that "People Build Businesses." Our dedicated workforce is the driving force behind our success, consistently innovating and delivering exceptional solutions year after year.

As a prominent player in the global packaging sector, we operate in over 34 countries and take immense pride in our brand portfolio, sustainability achievements, and the remarkable contributions of our employees.

This role is crucial in steering a Sonoco division through the Sonoco Performance System (SPS). You will have a unique opportunity to spearhead a robust process enhancement strategy, supported by both corporate and plant resources. We are looking for a candidate who aspires to advance into future roles within Operations and Plant Management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate the deployment of SPS and Manufacturing Fundamentals across the division, serving as the primary resource for plant personnel and pillar teams regarding SPS-related inquiries.

• Establish foundational principles and objectives for SPS within the plants, particularly after insights gained from the model machine, with an annual review process.

• Train, mentor, and educate plant associates on minimizing zero-based losses while utilizing key performance indicators such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), product quality, waste reduction, process efficiency, safety, and operational costs.

• Monitor accountability to ensure the team meets all key performance indicators (KPIs) and create agendas tailored to areas where the plant requires additional assistance.

• Ensure that relevant personnel comprehend and act upon metrics, while keeping tracking systems updated.

• Employ Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies to foster a culture of learning, commitment to ongoing enhancement, and a focus on sustainable outcomes.

• Promote collaboration among pillar teams to prevent siloed operations.

• Accurately identify and quantify losses each reporting period, understanding the composition and drivers behind each loss.

• Collect requested charts from SPS plant teams during each reporting cycle.

• Maintain thorough knowledge of all pillars to provide guidance and support as necessary, assisting in the selection of pillar owners and their teams.

• Maintain ongoing communication with the Plant Manager and Regional Manager regarding the progress of SPS initiatives, identifying gaps and communicating relevant information.

• Ensure adherence to all OSHA regulations, division standards, and specific plant safety protocols.

Essential Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree required.

• Leadership: Ability to guide, train, support implementation, and communicate SPS initiatives at all levels within the plant, from operators to plant management.

• Proficient in leading and facilitating multi-functional pillar teams, with demonstrated experience in collaborating with shop floor colleagues, team development, and leadership.

• Communication: Capable of effectively delivering messages to ensure knowledge transfer, expressing opinions confidently while maintaining a respectful demeanor, and demonstrating strong listening skills to facilitate knowledge sharing.

• Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build trustful relationships and foster cooperation among team members.

• Change Management: Drive the adoption and proficiency of changes impacting plant employees to enhance value realization and achieve desired outcomes.

• Business and Technical Acumen: Experience in manufacturing leadership, engineering, and continuous improvement methodologies (TPM, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.). Strong technical aptitude with a comprehensive understanding of division-specific manufacturing processes, financials, and technologies.

• Organizational and team management skills to support pillar teams effectively.

Compensation and advancement opportunities will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and current business requirements.

At Sonoco Products Company, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package, including competitive compensation and benefits. *Benefits may vary based on location and employment status.

Benefits Include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents, including FSA and HSA options.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.

  • Paid time off and holidays for personal rejuvenation and family care.
