About Us:
Our Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Penrose Hospital, recognized as a Magnet facility, features 36 beds within a Level II Trauma and Primary Stroke Center. Our ICU nursing team specializes in delivering care to a diverse range of patients requiring intensive monitoring and advanced medical attention. This includes individuals with medical, surgical, trauma, stroke, and post-operative cardio-thoracic needs. Our nurses are equipped to care for trauma patients aged 15 and older, as well as medical/surgical patients aged 18 and older. The varied patient demographics enable our nurses to cultivate a broad skill set. Our ICU nurses frequently manage cardiac and vascular patients who have undergone procedures such as Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), valve repairs, and aortic aneurysm repairs, along with those needing Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IAPB), Impella devices, and Continuous Venous-Venous Hemodialysis (CVVHD/CRRT). We also provide comprehensive stroke care, including systemic and intracerebral tPA and Neuro Interventional Radiology procedures (NIR). We believe in a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to delivering outstanding patient care, fostering interdepartmental relationships that allow us to treat patients and families with an inclusive care model. ICU leadership and clinical teams encourage shared governance through active participation in unit and hospital committees. Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate, communicate, and collaborate with the healthcare team and the patient/family to identify and address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient.
- Promote the health, well-being, and safety of patients through the nursing process, adhering to patient care standards, guidelines, and the State Nurse Practice Act.
- Exhibit personal accountability for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values.
Qualifications:
In addition to embodying kindness in the workplace, qualified nursing candidates will need the following:
Educational Background:
- Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Nursing Diploma or endorsement accepted.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required for new graduates; preferred for experienced RNs.
Experience:
- Minimum of one year of RN ICU experience required.
- Nursing skills and knowledge specific to the specialty area.
Licenses/Certifications:
- RN License required; current state nursing licenses or valid RN license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact.
- BLS certification required through AHA.
- ACLS certification required through AHA.
- NIHSS certification required.
- TNCC or TCAR certification required within 6 months of hire.
Physical Requirements:
- Medium Work - Ability to exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs constantly.
Shift Details:
Night shift from 7 PM to 7:30 AM.
