Job Summary:

The Operations Director will lead the development and implementation of activities in production areas to meet production goals, quality, and cost objectives. This role will prioritize production schedules based on product introduction, equipment efficiency, and materials supply. The Operations Director will plan and administer procedures and budgets, making budgetary recommendations and controlling capital expenditures and direct/indirect labor. This position is responsible for managing two or more of the following activities related to operations: manufacturing, production planning, manufacturing engineering, test, quality, or shipping/receiving/stores. The Operations Director will develop schedules and manpower requirements for assigned areas, select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function, and provide support to all divisions and departments of the company, vendors, and subcontractors. The Operations Director will also interact with current and potential customers and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage highly experienced professionals, supervisors, or managers.
  • Lead one or more departments.
  • Communicate with parties inside and outside of the organization on matters of strategic importance to influence senior leadership on new concepts, practices, and approaches.
  • Establish overall direction for new processes, systems, and solutions.
  • Recommend and implement strategies and develop operational plans/goals that directly impact the mid- to long-term function or business area achievements.
  • Require advanced management, business knowledge, leadership capabilities, and broad experience across multiple related professional disciplines.
  • Responsible for establishing the direction for new processes, systems, solutions, and products using significant conceptualization, reasoning, and interpretation.
  • Solutions are innovative and often define best practice for the future.
  • Opportunities for problem solving and innovation are regularly complex, requiring broad-based consideration of variables that impact multiple areas of the organization.
  • Extensively analyze implications of both near and long-term solutions.
  • Owns and develops tactical and operational plans and goals for a business area or function, which may include oversight for multiple departments.
  • Recommend and operationalize strategies that have a direct impact on the mid- to long-term function/area achievements.
  • Work requires a high degree of responsibility for resources, and frequently influences business decisions made by leadership.
  • Recommend and implement new products, processes, policies, standards, or operating plans in support of job function strategy. Typically has budget or Profit & Loss (P&L) accountability for the department.
  • Active Secret Clearance Required.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to understand and evaluate quality system procedures and technical and non-technical documents relating to the operations of the business.
  • Ability to plan, organize, communicate, and direct Operations resources to ensure high-quality products and services at competitive prices.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, legal documents, and financial reports, including cost analysis, profits, and losses, profit margins, and cash flow.
  • Ability to use proper English spelling, grammar, and legible office and business writing skills.
  • Ability to speak well, have good communication and interpersonal skills, ability to interface with both technical and non-technical personnel, and effective human relations skills are essential.
  • Ability to motivate others, sound listening skills, pays attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, multi-task oriented, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Requires advanced business knowledge, general management, and leadership capability to lead business area or functional teams. Typically has broad experience across multiple related professional disciplines within the organization, combining theory, past practical experience, and the organization's business practices.
  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience.
