We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Healthcare Support Specialist to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Assist Registered Nurses with daily patient care activities, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and ambulation.
- Measure and document patient data, such as blood pressures, temperatures, and intake/output.
- Participate in admission, transfer, and discharge processes, ensuring patient rooms are prepared and patient belongings are managed.
- Perform purposeful rounding, communicating patient observations and needs to Registered Nurses.
- Assist with nutritional needs, including diet review, tray setup, and special patient supplies.
- Collect and process patient specimens, perform point-of-care testing, and maintain competency as required.
- Practice infection prevention policies and procedures, demonstrating hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques.
- Coordinate tests and treatments with various departments, maintaining a working knowledge of EHR systems and other computer systems.
- Facilitate patient care communications, including phone calls, unit paging, and hospital information systems.
- Compile chart forms, obtain medical records, and verify patient demographic information.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 45 days.
- Nurse Aide certification in good standing with the State Registry.
- Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), or High School Graduate.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
