Qualifications and Responsibilities

Bachelor's degree or higher in Speech and Language Pathology or Communication Disorders is required. A valid Assistant in Speech-Language Pathology license granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) is also necessary. Additionally, knowledge of federal and state laws and guidelines related to speech and language therapy services is essential.

Key skills include excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as basic computer skills. The ability to concentrate on detailed work and communicate effectively with a wide variety of district personnel is also crucial.

Responsibilities include knowledge of habilitation and rehabilitation of speech, language, and hearing disorders. This involves planning and providing individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech/language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP) under the direction of the licensed supervisor.

Other responsibilities include participating in determining student progress and readiness for termination of therapy services, collaborating with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom-based activities, and attending regularly scheduled speech therapy meetings.

Additionally, the role involves compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required, as well as complying with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

This position also involves assisting in the selection of materials, equipment, and other instructional materials, creating an environment conducive to learning, and maintaining current knowledge of TEKS.
