Position Summary:

The Educational Support Specialist at Tommy Nobis Center plays a crucial role in an innovative program aimed at delivering accelerated vocational education, training, and employment opportunities for young adults with disabilities transitioning from high school to the workforce. This position involves assisting the Academy Instructor in implementing a curriculum focused on Life Skills to foster work independence, Social Skills for effective interaction, and Vocational Skills to facilitate community integration.

The Educational Support Specialist is a full-time role dedicated to providing year-round services.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support the execution of services for participants throughout their journey in the program.
  2. Assist in classroom instruction utilizing a vocational skills curriculum that includes life skills, social skills, career exploration, and job readiness training for young adults.
  3. Facilitate daily instructional reviews to enhance learning outcomes.
  4. Oversee participants during breaks, lunch, and outings to ensure effective classroom management.
  5. Collaborate with the Academy Instructor and Employment Specialists to prepare participants for achieving their employment aspirations.
  6. Assist Employment Specialists in organizing internship opportunities at community work sites.
  7. Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for participants as required.
  8. Monitor and gather performance metrics and outcomes.
  9. Support case management and the development of individualized career goals for students, including documentation and data management.
  10. Contribute to the delivery of career readiness and educational workshops.
  11. Help plan and conduct group activities for students.
  12. Identify local learning opportunities to enhance student experiences.
Qualifications:
Education / Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in special education, rehabilitation, sociology, behavioral sciences, business administration, or a related field, or currently pursuing a degree.
  • Genuine interest in vocational rehabilitation and delivering career/work readiness training to individuals with disabilities.
