Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team for the 2024/2025 school year in San Marcos, CA and surrounding areas. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing quality services to students with diverse learning needs.

Job Summary:

The Special Education Teacher will work under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator to develop and implement individualized education plans for students with mild/moderate disabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to team participation, effective communication, and a passion for supporting students with special needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans in consultation with parents and department team members
  • Support students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities
  • Design instruction, both individual and small group, to parallel the general education curriculum
  • Assist parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop educational plans
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities
  • Coordinate individualized education program (IEP) implementation with general education staff
  • Monitor student progress and participate in review and revision of student's IEP
  • Maintain accurate student records
  • Mentor and support teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities
  • Support students in preparation for grade transitions and life skills
  • Assess students' skills and educational needs and track student's performance
  • Discuss students' progress with other teachers
  • Communicate effectively with students and their parents
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred
  • Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations
  • Minimum of one year experience in teaching environment preferred
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred
  • Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
  • Current CPR if applicable
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
