Position Overview:
The Security Specialist I embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, adhering to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, while complying with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of Security Leadership, this role is tasked with following established protocols to safeguard the facility from theft and damage. The position is responsible for ensuring the safety of patients, visitors, associates, and medical personnel; investigating and addressing disturbances; and restraining individuals as directed by medical staff.
Specific Duties Include:
1. Investigating and resolving incidents within the facility to maintain security for patients, visitors, and employees.
2. Preparing detailed reports for supervisory review.
3. Notifying relevant city authorities (police and fire) and documenting incidents for management.
4. Conducting regular patrols of the facility's premises to ensure the safety of patients and property, preventing unauthorized access.
These patrols are conducted both on foot and via mobile units.
5. Investigating reports of hazardous conditions, theft, criminal activities, and other security concerns.
6. Monitoring access control systems, fire alarms, duress alarms, and security surveillance systems.
7. Managing traffic to ensure unobstructed access for emergency vehicles and appropriate access for patients and visitors.
8. Controlling traffic during incidents and for air transport operations.
9. Securing restricted areas by checking and locking doors according to established schedules or as required by specific situations.
10. Providing escorts for staff to their vehicles upon request.
11. Transporting deceased individuals to the morgue and releasing them to authorized personnel in accordance with established protocols.
12. Responding to all emergency codes in line with departmental guidelines.
13. Informing the department manager of any activities or deviations from standards that may necessitate disciplinary action or follow-up.
14. Enforcing all facility policies and procedures as directed.
Security personnel are expected to maintain a professional and approachable demeanor, encouraging individuals to seek assistance or share information that may help prevent issues or mitigate risks to the facility.
15. Conducting searches for contraband to ensure the safety of patients and staff as necessary.
16. Monitoring individuals or situations to guarantee the safety of patients and employees.
17. Overseeing the staff parking permit process and ensuring compliance with established policies.
18. Performing other related duties as assigned.
