Outpatient Phlebotomy Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team in the Outpatient Laboratory at Yale New Haven Health. As a Phlebotomy Specialist, you will be responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from patients in a safe and efficient manner, following established protocols and guidelines.

- Ensure accurate and timely processing of specimens, including labeling, packaging, and transportation to the laboratory.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and healthcare staff, responding to their needs and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient information, including medical history, test results, and specimen collection data.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure smooth operation of the laboratory, including troubleshooting equipment and resolving technical issues.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with new technologies, procedures, and best practices in phlebotomy.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an approved phlebotomy certification program or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum one year of current phlebotomy experience or successful completion of an accredited phlebotomy program and internship.
- Phlebotomy certification or equivalent required; certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, with attention to detail and accuracy.
This position requires working in a fast-paced laboratory environment, with frequent exposure to blood and other bodily fluids. The successful candidate must be able to lift and move equipment and supplies as needed, and be able to stand for long periods of time.
