Criminal Litigation Attorney

The Ladders is in search of a dedicated Criminal Litigation Attorney to oversee the formulation and presentation of criminal cases for our organization. This role involves the meticulous preparation and advocacy of cases in judicial settings and administrative hearings.
This is a full-time, 40-hour per week exempt position with a competitive salary range.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct thorough research and draft legal briefs to support the department's operations.
- Act as the primary liaison with the judicial system, coordinating the scheduling of cases and witnesses.
- Prepare legal complaints as required and review submissions from law enforcement personnel for compliance with legal standards.
- Ensure timely notification of witnesses regarding their required court appearances.
- Optimize court schedules to minimize the time law enforcement personnel spend in court.
- Inform the Chief of Police of any significant developments in ongoing cases.
- Ensure effective case preparation and presentation in court, while guaranteeing the punctual attendance of witnesses.
- Maintain accurate records of all cases presented in court and their outcomes, forwarding necessary documentation to the appropriate department.
- Recommend targeted training for officers based on identified challenges during case preparation or court presentations.
- Analyze judicial decisions that may impact departmental operations and prepare training materials as needed.
- Provide training and guidance to law enforcement personnel regarding case prosecution and court testimony.
- Draft legal memoranda on departmental administrative matters as required.
- Submit regular reports and other documentation as necessary.
- Be available for consultation with department members on active investigations and related legal matters.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by authorized personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Extensive understanding of civil and criminal law principles and procedures is essential. Candidates should possess a strong foundation in legal research, judicial processes, and evidentiary rules. Familiarity with federal, state, and local laws, as well as relevant case law, is crucial. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required, along with the ability to effectively try cases in a court of law and prepare legal documents.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:
A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and relevant professional legal experience are required. Candidates must be a bar-certified attorney and in good standing with the appropriate state bar association. Preference will be given to those with a minimum of two years of experience in criminal prosecution at any governmental level.
