Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Laborer to join our team at Fall River Public Schools. As a Maintenance Laborer, you will be responsible for providing timely and efficient service to our schools for a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled labor duties. You will work closely with our maintenance team to ensure that all work performed meets our high standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities:

Perform routine manual labor tasks as assigned in assisting carpenters, electricians, painters, plumbers, and steamfitters, roofers, and HVAC mechanics engaged in maintenance, repair, and construction work.
Load and unload supplies for various skilled craftsmen as listed; pick up and deliver supplies to above-listed craftsmen.
Dig, jackhammer, and demolish construction-related projects as directed.
Repair rails and fences; chip, scale, and clean steel rails; maintain, erect, and repair signs.
Perform general cleaning of roads and parking lots; trim, water, and fertilize trees and shrubbery.
Erect and dismantle snow fences; sweep sidewalks, rake lawns, haul debris, shovel snow, sand roads, and perform other manual tasks in connection with snow removal.
May clean, wash, gas, oil, and grease trucks and automobiles; perform other manual labor tasks in connection with the maintenance and operation of the maintenance garage.
Perform routine labor tasks such as cleaning and polishing equipment and machines.
Perform manual labor in a stockroom, storeroom, or warehouse such as loading and unloading freight, materials, and equipment, handling and storing of stock, and assisting in the taking of inventories.
Operate trucks with a rated capacity of 9 tons or under, including a range of equipment such as fork trucks, man lifts, pick-up trucks, dump trucks, and panel trucks.
Perform minor maintenance to ensure the effectiveness of motor equipment; maintain clerical records pertaining to inventory control, disbursement, and preventive maintenance.
Perform other related semi-skilled and unskilled tasks as required.

Requirements:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and supervisors.
Ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously with other city employees and have a positive can-do attitude.
Ability to observe necessary safety precautions.
Willingness to work overtime hours as requested.
A motor vehicle license.
Working knowledge of the use of common hand tools.
Working knowledge of construction and maintenance materials.
Working knowledge of one or more of the mechanical or building trades.
Ability to perform manual labor of a skilled nature.
Ability to use and make minor repairs to small tools and simple mechanical equipment.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and under varying climatic conditions.
Ability to perform manual labor with little latitude for independent judgment and under direct supervision.

Working Conditions:

The Maintenance Laborer will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines and changing priorities. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision. The Maintenance Laborer will be required to work in a variety of settings, including schools, maintenance facilities, and outdoors. The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects, and to work at heights and in confined spaces. The Maintenance Laborer will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary, and to follow all safety protocols and procedures.
