Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Security Officer to join our team at Eastern Connecticut Health Network. As a Security Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our employees, patients, visitors, physicians, and property.

Key Responsibilities
  • First Responder: Respond immediately to all emergency codes, using established procedures and protocols. Follow proper PMT and de-escalation training, and follow clinical direction when detaining or restraining a patient or unruly visitor.
  • Patrolling/Routine Monitoring: Safeguard against vandalism, theft, fire, and injury to employees, patients, and visitors. Patrol external and internal areas of the hospital, parking areas, and grounds, and assist in monitoring the safety of entrances and exits.
  • Theft Prevention: Collect lost and found items, investigate and document reports of theft or vandalism, and forward reports to the Security Sergeant or lead. Summon local police to investigate when necessary.
  • Additional Duties: Respond to calls for morgue duty, apply proper lifting techniques, and transport deceased patients to the morgue. Enforce parking regulations and traffic control, assist with valet parking services, and issue warning tickets to employees parked in unauthorized areas.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Current Connecticut Security Officer Identification Card.
  • CPI conflict resolution training within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum of two years of previous security or security-related experience.
Competencies
  • Ability to read, speak, and write proficiently in English.
  • Good physical condition to quickly move up and down stairs, run, stand for long periods, and walk long rounds.
  • Ability to take swift and efficient action, forcibly detain, restrain, and/or extract persons from the premises when responding to emergency codes or other urgent situations.
  • Alert and excellent observation skills.
  • Good communication and analytical abilities, and ability to exercise independent judgment in emergency situations.
  • Working knowledge of applicable state laws, especially those dealing with use of force and detention powers.
  • Thorough knowledge of the hospital floor plan, including normal and emergency entry and exit points.
  • Knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures, and ability to perform and enforce them.
