Job Title: Behavioral Support Specialist

Community Options, Inc. is a national non-profit agency providing services to individuals with disabilities in 12 states. We are seeking a skilled Behavioral Support Specialist to join our team in Westmoreland, PA.

About the Role:

We are looking for a dedicated professional to work with individuals with developmental disabilities, using best practices and technology to teach them essential skills for independent living. The ideal candidate will be able to handle the pressure of training in a public environment, exercise patience, and work with a flexible schedule.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Observe and interact with individuals to understand their needs and develop personalized support plans.
  • Create prevention plans and support plans to ensure the well-being of individuals.
  • Complete functional assessments to identify areas for improvement.
  • Train staff on the implementation of plans to ensure consistency and quality of care.
  • Prepare progress reports for individual's immediate support group to keep them informed.
  • Serve as an active member of each person's Inter-Disciplinary Team (IDT), contributing to Individual Habilitation Plan development.
  • Attend staff meetings for various locations to stay updated on team efforts and share knowledge.
  • Cooperate with the licensee and department staff in any inspection, inquiry, or investigation.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree preferred, plus one year of experience in developing behavior support plans and teaching staff to implement plans.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Complete all state and agency required training per state guidelines.
  • Understanding and commitment to community-based supports for persons with disabilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local regulatory agency operations.
  • Experience with problem-solving against multiple priorities.
  • Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with individuals receiving supports.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and remain calm in crisis situations.
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
