Overview:

Role Summary:
The Family Store Clerk is accountable to the Ketchikan Family Store. The primary responsibility includes operating the point of sale system to efficiently process customer transactions. The clerk will also ensure the store environment is clean and organized, perform basic janitorial tasks, and set up promotional signage as required. Assisting with donation processing is also part of the role. As a representative of the store, the clerk is expected to embody the values of The Salvation Army, fostering a safe and welcoming atmosphere for both customers and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a tidy and secure work environment.
- Engage respectfully with customers, supervisors, and team members.
- Oversee volunteers in alignment with The Salvation Army's policies.
- Manage cash register operations, including accurate money handling and record-keeping.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to all store visitors.
- Assist in organizing and maintaining merchandise displays.
- Utilize various equipment and systems, including computers and point of sale technology.
- Answer phone inquiries as necessary.
- Support store cleanliness and organization in all areas.
- Participate in required training sessions, including child safety and CPR certifications.
- Adhere to dress code policies to maintain a professional appearance.
- Assist with loading and unloading items as needed.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Store Manager or Corps Officers.
Working Conditions:
Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Must be capable of using technology such as computers and telephones. Adherence to proper lifting techniques is essential.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of work experience in any field, preferably in retail or sales. Must be able to complete all assigned training and work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Skills and Abilities:
Quick learner with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Flexible and open to new ideas. Proficient in basic math skills. Strong customer service orientation. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications is preferred but not required.
