Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Phlebotomy Technician, your primary responsibility will be to collect high-quality blood samples utilizing various phlebotomy techniques across all age demographics.

Techniques may encompass venous, capillary, arterial, and line collections, with specific methods varying by location. You will also respond promptly to medical emergencies, including traumas and codes.

In this role, you will work both independently and collaboratively, engaging with team members to promote an inclusive workplace and respecting diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

You will interact with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction. A range of computer applications and systems will be utilized throughout your daily tasks.

Additional duties include ensuring accurate patient identification, proper specimen labeling, handling, and transportation, managing phone inquiries, and assisting in the training of students and new staff.

Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
Additional Application Requirements
All applicants must include a resume with their application.

Employees in the Community Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (CLMP) department who have been in their current role for less than two years must attach an early release approval from their supervisor.

Internal candidates must provide their three most recent performance evaluations.
Willingness to travel to other locations for assignments as necessary.
Preferred qualifications include phlebotomy experience and experience in a medical setting.
Ability to push a cart and walk distances is necessary.
Moderate to advanced computer proficiency is required.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, effective time management, and adaptability to changing workloads are essential.

Excellent customer service skills are a must.
Licensure or Certification
To qualify for the Clinical Phlebotomy Technician II position, candidates must possess a valid phlebotomy certification from an accredited laboratory certification agency, such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Health Career Association (NHA), or the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT). Certificates from technical colleges where the course was completed are not acceptable.

Certification from an agency such as those listed above is required, or candidates must possess one of the following valid certifications:

Medical Assistant (MA) certification from an approved agency such as the American Medical Association (AMA), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or Medical Technologist (MT) certification.

Ongoing maintenance of certifications is not mandatory.

Basic Life Support certification may be required within six months of hire, depending on the location.

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and tenure, in alignment with internal equity. The pay range for Clinical Phlebotomy Technician I is $24.48 per hour, while the pay range for Clinical Phlebotomy Technician II is $26.14 per hour.
Benefits are available for eligible employees.
Schedule
This is a full-time position with a schedule of 64 hours per pay period. Typical start times are Monday through Friday at 6:00 AM, 7:30 AM, or 8:30 AM.
Flexibility is required to cover evening shifts as needed.

Clinic coverage is primarily expected at designated clinics, with potential for additional locations.

Weekend rotation occurs every sixth weekend, with hours from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Occasional on-call hours may be required during peak times.
