Mammography Technologist Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mammography Technologist to join our team at Advocate Health. As a Mammography Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our diagnostic imaging department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Position patients and adjust equipment to perform procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Determine appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient condition to obtain quality films.
  • Secure patient history and record information for radiologist review.
  • Participate in team efforts to reduce wait times, improve report turnaround times, and minimize lost films.
  • Work with registration to expedite patient flow through the department.
  • Adjust mammogram schedules as needed to accommodate late and add-on patients.
  • Answer phones, schedule patients, and respond to questions and pages from physicians.
  • File reports, hang, and take down films as necessary.
  • Tactfully call patients back for additional views, answer questions, and schedule them promptly.
Adherence to Safety Standards:
  • Maintain compliance with established safety standards to protect patients and staff.
  • Adhere to age-specific standards.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintain supplies for assigned room on a daily basis.
  • Verify accuracy of exams performed and requisitions.
  • Perform clerical duties, including maintaining patient records, answering phones, and scheduling examinations.
Quality Control and Coordination:
  • Check film quality to ensure optimal quality and correct labeling.
  • Perform quality control activities, respond to processing fluctuations, and equipment changes.
  • Coordinate patient flow, communicate with radiologists, and ensure timely exam completion.
  • Prepare mammographic rooms, maintain equipment, and supplies as required.
  • Report deficient inventory of supplies and linen to Lead Technologist.
  • Label radiographic films according to department quality assurance standards.
  • Prepare mixtures and/or dyes as necessary following prescribed formulas.
  • Coordinate patient flow into and out of the department according to established procedures.
  • Transport patients as necessary.
Problem-Solving and Teamwork:
  • Maintain current ARRT certification, CPR, and state accreditation.
  • Participate in problem-solving issues addressing patients, department operations, quality assurance procedures, interdepartmental relationships, and employee morale.
Advanced Mammographic Equipment:
  • Assist radiologists with specialty procedures, including ductograms, stereo core biopsies, and Mammotome procedures.
  • Operate all mammographic equipment in all rooms.
Education and Experience:

Must be a graduate from an accredited AMA School of Radiology with 1-2 years of experience as a General Radiographer or sonographer. 40 hours of specialized training and continuing education in mammography are required. Knowledge of breast anatomy is essential.
