KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Welcome, assist, and express gratitude to all customers in a timely, courteous, and friendly manner.
  • Process customer transactions using a scanner or keyboard.
  • Help customers unload their shopping carts onto the conveyor belt.
  • Weigh specific items as required.
  • Input product codes for items that do not scan or for items that need to be weighed.
  • Recognize various products across different departments.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization at the checkout area.
  • Ensure the work area is free from safety hazards and report any issues to management.
  • Handle cash back transactions and verify the accuracy of change given.
  • Complete necessary documentation for opening and closing procedures.
  • Count cash for scheduled pickups.
  • Request change before running out.
  • Bag customers' groceries as needed.
  • Familiarity with all forms of payment including food assistance programs, credit cards, debit cards, checks, and cash.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and colleagues regarding products, pricing, and payment methods.
  • Address customer concerns and escalate issues to the appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Understand procedures for processing refunds, returns, or exchanges.
  • Discreetly inform managers of items that require attention.
  • Manage multiple customer interactions professionally.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Keep bag racks stocked and organized.
  • Return discarded or returned merchandise to appropriate locations.
  • Restock front-end candy, gum, and tobacco products.
  • Return shopping carts to designated areas.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude.
  • Report any incidents of theft, shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns, or property damage to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • A minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalent is preferred; some college education is a plus.
  • Basic math skills to provide change and manage cash registers.
  • Strong customer service skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Occasionally - Lifting up to 35 lbs., bending, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Frequently - Walking on tile/concrete, balancing, pushing up to 35 lbs, and verbal communication.
  • Continuously - Standing on tile/concrete, pulling and lifting up to 35 lbs, reaching overhead, and manual dexterity.
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS:
  • Occasionally - Exposure to loud noises, slippery surfaces, sharp objects, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Continuously - Twisting of the back and neck.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Indoor setting with controlled temperatures.
  • Varied and irregular work schedules.
