Facilities Mechanic Job Description

Amentum is seeking a skilled Facilities Mechanic to support the Hawthorne Army Depot in Hawthorne, Nevada. The successful candidate will be responsible for remodeling and repairing facilities, maintaining and repairing small motors, LP Gas and electrical appliances, and establishing preventive maintenance programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform tasks such as repairing windowpanes and sash cords, repairing or replacing water faucets, and clearing clogged drains.
  • Accomplish structural and other real property maintenance, upkeep, and repairs by applying accepted trade techniques, practices, and work procedures.
  • Handle usual maintenance service calls without prior instruction from supervisor and follow Safety Data Sheet guidelines for handling, storage, and disposal of Hazardous Materials.
  • Connect appliances, repair and adjust household type heaters, furnaces, water heaters, and coolers.
  • Make minor repairs to gas or electric ranges, refrigerators, kitchen equipment, and radiators.
  • Clean, oil, and perform operating maintenance on small motors, fans, blowers, pumps, and similar items.
  • Perform outside repair, secure loose shingles and siding, patch roof leaks, and repair or replace steps, porch floors, and guard rails.
  • Repair lawn mowers, gardening equipment, and household tools.
  • Install, maintain, and repair a variety of small domestic type gas and oil heating units and systems.
  • Troubleshoot to determine type and extent of necessary repairs.
  • Trace malfunctions and replace fixtures such as safety devices, thermostats, and heating elements.
  • Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.
  • Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
  • May be required to work overtime or varying hours to include shift work.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma/equivalent.
  • Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment.
  • One (1) year experience in remodeling and repairing structures, maintaining and repairing small motors, LP Gas and electrical appliances, equipment and components is desirable.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain all certifications as required by Amentum's Master Training Plan.
  • Good writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, varying hours, and/or rotating shifts.
  • Must maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Must also be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of government security clearance.
