The Senior Credit Specialist serves as the authoritative resource within the Credit Department, providing essential support to the Credit Manager. This role is pivotal in assessing the creditworthiness of both new and existing clients, overseeing the management of accounts receivable and cash accounts, processing payments, and generating preliminary notices and lien releases, along with maintaining financial records and reporting.

This position requires collaboration across various levels of the organization to address issues, offer feedback, and deliver specialized training, supporting both retail locations and headquarters on a regular basis.

Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the subject matter expert in the Credit Department, providing backup to the Credit Manager.
- Offer coverage for the Store Credit Office as required.
- Assess creditworthiness for new and existing clients by analyzing financial reports, historical data, and other relevant credit information.
- Establish new accounts.
- Generate Preliminary Notices and Lien Releases.
- Identify and implement ongoing process enhancements.
- Collect outstanding receivables by reaching out to clients and investigating non-payment situations.
- Review overdue accounts and advise on issuing final demands, Mechanic Liens, or bad debt to the Credit Manager.
- Assist in developing and enforcing credit policies, procedures, and internal controls, ensuring documentation is current.
- Respond to incoming credit inquiries.
- Collaborate with store teams to resolve cash balancing discrepancies.
- Manage departmental reporting related to cash over/shorts, phone queue metrics, and credit clearances.
- Support the Credit Team during month-end closing and statement billing.
- Aid in external vault reconciliation and cash recycler reporting.
- Contribute to achieving business objectives and goals within the Credit Team.
- Assist in the recruitment, training, and mentoring of Credit Team Members.
- Train new Store Management Team Members on credit policies and procedures.
- Anticipate and address customer inquiries, providing proactive solutions.
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.

Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Finance or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience:
5-7 years in a finance or retail setting.

Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ensuring effective interaction with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Microsoft D365 and other mid-tier accounting systems is preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access) and Smartsheet.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail with the capability to identify and resolve issues while considering their broader implications.
- Competence in performing calculations, including percentages and interest.
- Proficient in data collection, financial analysis, and evaluation.
- Ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and propose process improvements.
- Adaptability to changing environments and the ability to manage ambiguity.
- Exceptional customer service skills with a focus on building positive relationships across various levels of the organization.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to PCI compliance, recognizing the sensitive nature of customer and company information.

Work Environment:
Work primarily takes place in an office setting within a Friedman's location in Northern California. A hybrid work schedule may be available, with field assignments requiring travel to store locations approximately 20% of the time.
