We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Housing Inspector to join our team at the City of Pasadena. As a Housing Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections of private market housing units to ensure compliance with HUD Housing Quality Standards (HQS) and City Regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct on-site inspections of residential properties to identify any deficiencies or non-compliance with HQS and City Regulations.
- Record and report all inspection findings, including any health and safety issues.
- Notify landlords of inspection failures and provide detailed lists of deficiencies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of inspections and associated filing systems.
- Enter data into computer systems and generate periodic reports.
- Provide excellent customer service to clients and landlords, explaining the nature of Pasadena Housing Office programs, procedures, and services.
- Perform clerical and administrative duties, including data entry, document preparation, and file maintenance.
- Update and maintain client databases and coordinate inspection appointments as needed.
- Conduct rent reasonableness studies and support the relationship between Pasadena Housing Office and the constituent population.
- High School Diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in the building trades or a related field.
- Two years of HUD or Housing or Residential Construction experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Housing Quality Standards Certification and/or HUD National Standards for Physical Inspection of Real Estate (NSPIRE) certification required within the first year of employment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word.
- Proficiency in remote platforms, such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Webex.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
- Knowledge of HUD rules and regulations relating to the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
