Position Overview

The Production Operations Leader is responsible for directing and coordinating the functions of the manufacturing and distribution sectors to achieve optimal efficiency and enhance profitability. This role encompasses oversight of assembly, machining, industrial engineering, distribution, facilities, and environmental health and safety (EHS). The leader will drive organizational goals through management of subordinate teams, ensuring accountability for costs, processes, safety, operations, quality, and production output.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise operations across assembly, machining, industrial engineering, distribution, facilities, and EHS.
  • Develop and implement enhancements in processes, safety measures, and cost-saving initiatives while supporting production and research & development.
  • Establish and adhere to annual departmental and capital budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO Quality Systems.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff to resolve operational challenges.
  • Oversee the implementation of standardized processes to guarantee quality product delivery in line with customer specifications.
  • Design and maintain manufacturing systems that align with business and customer needs.
  • Plan and execute initiatives aimed at improving customer satisfaction, manufacturing efficiency, and profitability.
  • Coach and guide direct reports in evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of their responsibilities.
  • Recommend capital investments to ensure timely delivery of equipment that meets internal return on investment (ROI) criteria.
  • Collaborate with the Materials Manager to maximize equipment utilization.
  • Structure operational departments to facilitate the production of high-quality products with timely delivery and competitive pricing.
  • Manage and reduce manufacturing costs by controlling labor and overhead expenses.
  • Enhance customer satisfaction through improved product availability and reduced lead times while minimizing inventory levels.
  • Coordinate the establishment and maintenance of adequate manufacturing capacity.
  • Contribute to strategic and operational planning processes.
  • Measure and report on manufacturing metrics and cost control efforts.
  • Participate in product design reviews to ensure manufacturability and support product development initiatives.
  • Promote and enforce safety policies and practices to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of relevant work instructions and ISO procedures.
  • Manage personnel to foster positive morale, encourage initiative, and help employees reach their full potential.
  • Implement effective housekeeping practices and measures to mitigate environmental impacts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or 8-10 years of relevant experience in production management.
  • A minimum of 10 years in Production Management.
  • At least 5 years in a supervisory role within Production or Distribution Operations.
  • MBA preferred.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing techniques and tools.
  • Proven track record in achieving cost reduction targets.
  • Experience in collaborative work with cross-functional teams in a matrix organization.
