Position Summary:

The Vice President of Financial Operations will report directly to the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer. This role is situated within the corporate headquarters of a global S&P 500 medical device firm. Key responsibilities encompass essential public company accounting obligations, including the comprehensive application of accounting standards across multiple billion-dollar divisions, consolidation of financial statements, SEC reporting, internal controls, and compliance. This position oversees a team of approximately 20 professionals and requires a blend of advanced accounting expertise and strong leadership capabilities to foster team development and drive organizational transformation.
  • Overseeing technical accounting, financial consolidations, and the reporting of company financial statements.
  • Establishing and upholding accounting policies and effective internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Collaborating with cross-divisional stakeholders, including divisional CFOs and controllers.
  • Demonstrating executive presence and leadership to influence decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Partnering with divisional finance leaders to offer technical and operational accounting insights.
  • Ensuring consistent and accurate application of accounting standards.
  • Engaging in technical accounting, particularly in M&A activities, including purchase accounting.
  • Managing SEC reporting, ensuring timely and accurate public financial filings in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Handling financial consolidations, including intercompany accounting and internal reporting.
  • Implementing internal controls in accordance with U.S. SOX, maintaining clear accounting policies and procedures.
  • Identifying and managing foreign exchange exposures affecting the P&L.
  • Overseeing the accounting and reporting for CooperVision's UK operations.
  • Leading initiatives for enterprise-wide process standardization and collaborating with IT for technological enhancements.
  • Acting as the primary liaison with independent auditors, preparing for external audits, and coordinating with Internal Audit on ongoing activities.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and expanding responsibilities.
Leadership Qualities:
  • Exhibiting executive presence and acting as a representative for the CFO in interactions with leadership and the Board.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP, particularly ASC 810, 606, 842, and 830.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and financial management tools.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
  • Ability to cultivate strong professional relationships with leadership.
  • Experience with public company reporting and managing audits.
  • Proven experience leading a team of finance professionals.
Experience and Education:
  • CPA or equivalent, with a minimum of 12 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • At least 7 years of experience in public company management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Preferred experience in operational accounting and the medical device industry.
  • Experience in significant finance roles beyond accounting is advantageous.
