Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Central Sterile Processing Specialist to join our team at MetroHealth Medical Center.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization, and storage of all surgical instrumentation, including specialty instrumentation requiring intricate assembly and special care.

As a liaison to the hospital staff, especially the operating room and labor and delivery room, the Central Sterile Processing Specialist will ensure the proper care and use of instruments and supplies.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, critical thinking skills, and knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to surgical instrumentation.

Responsibilities
  • Decontaminate, prepare, package, sterilize, and store all surgical instrumentation
  • Function as liaison to hospital staff, especially operating room and labor and delivery room
  • Operate instrument washer and all sterilization equipment
  • Perform daily sterilizer testing and maintain sterilizer logs and supplies
  • Uphold the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System
Requirements
  • High school diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam
  • One year of Central Sterile Processing experience
  • Must possess one of the following certifications: Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CBSPD) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
  • Good communication skills and phone etiquette
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Knowledgeable in medical terminology as it relates to surgical instrumentation
  • Ability to work independently and self-guided with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of Central Sterile Processing experience
  • Basic PC skills
  • Experience with instrument tracking system such as Censitrac or SPM
Physical Requirements

The successful candidate will be required to sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. They will also be required to see in the normal visual range with or without correction, hear in the normal audio range with or without correction, and lift 35 pounds and push/pull 350 pounds.
