Registered Nurse Operating Room - PRN
Job Summary:
To act as a patient advocate, providing continuity of care designed to meet individual patient needs through collaboration with other members of the healthcare team and supporting the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the facility.
The Circulating Nurse will assess the perioperative needs of individual patients, including adult, pediatric, neonatal, and adolescent patients.
Responsibilities:
Perform ongoing and systematic assessment/data collection, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status. Formulate a goal-directed plan of care, prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes. Implement care in a knowledgeable, skilled, and consistent manner to reach desired patient outcomes through nursing processes. Prepare the room, equipment, and supplies needed for procedures, including anesthesia supplies. Position patients for safe functional alignment, exposure of the surgical site, and to provide physical support. Assist the anesthesiologist with monitor leads, blood pressure cuff, and oximeter placement and remain at the patient's side during induction and positioning. Prepare the patient's operative site, confirming the procedure with the surgeon's history and physical. Establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available center resources of time, personnel, equipment, and supplies. Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events. Practice effective problem identification and resolution skills as a method of sound decision making. Perform documentation duties in the patient record, which is timely, accurate, and concise.
Additional Responsibilities:
Check the chart, confirm consent, history, and physical, laboratory results, allergies, and confirm the operative site. Work as part of a team in delivering patient care. Maintain CPR/ACLS certification. Attend all mandatory in-services and participate in staff meetings. Remain flexible, adaptive, and able to accept and implement new ideas and approaches. Treat all patients equally, adopting the center's Patient Rights policy. Review and carry out physician orders in an appropriate professional manner. Willingness to assist with other duties when asked.
