Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading engaging and dynamic fitness classes. This role ensures a safe, enjoyable, and supportive atmosphere that fosters member wellness and participation in line with YMCA policies and procedures. The instructor is tasked with delivering effective programming for participants in group fitness sessions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Conducts invigorating, enjoyable, and educational fitness classes.

- Fosters strong relationships with participants, encouraging connections within the YMCA community.

- Maintains current knowledge of health, fitness, and wellness trends to provide valuable insights and support to members.

- Keeps accurate and timely records of class attendance.

- Adheres to YMCA and Health & Wellness Department guidelines; responds appropriately to emergency situations.

- Communicates professionally and effectively with colleagues and staff; promptly engages with Health & Wellness Department communications.

- Assists with various tasks for the Health & Wellness Department as directed by the Health & Wellness Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirements:

- Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification (with a hands-on component).

- Valid Group Fitness Instructor and/or Personal Trainer Certification from a Nationally Accredited Certifying Agency (e.g., ACSM, NASM, AFAA, ACE, NESTA); or a current Specialty Instructor Certification (e.g., Cycling, Yoga Alliance, Pilates, Zumba, Tai Chi); or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Kinesiology, Dance, Health Science, Child Development, Public Administration – Non-Profit Organization).

- Experience in teaching group fitness classes.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Ability to instruct in multiple group fitness formats.

- Background in a health club or community center setting.

- Experience working with diverse exercise populations (experience with seniors is a plus).

- Availability to cover Group Fitness Schedule classes as needed.

Job Type: Part-time

Compensation: $27.00 per hour
