POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Procurement Planner is responsible for assessing material and production needs and coordinating the procurement of goods and services essential for the organization.

REPORTING STRUCTURE: Reports to the Supply Chain Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct timely evaluations of MRP messages to ascertain production needs and take necessary actions, including placing purchase orders and expediting deliveries as required. Monitor supplier performance to ensure timely delivery of critical raw materials and components.
  • Assess material availability for scheduled orders.
  • Procure raw materials/components based on MRP data and expedite orders as needed; ensure accuracy of all relevant information.
  • Coordinate work orders and logistics for external processing of raw materials.
  • Monitor and report on part shortages during daily meetings.
  • Continuously explore global purchasing opportunities and strategies for cost reduction.
  • Resolve material-related issues and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Enter purchase orders into the system; verify accuracy of all relevant details.
  • Collaborate with Receiving Inspection on non-conforming parts.
  • Communicate issues regarding non-conforming parts to suppliers and generate debit memos for returns.
  • Work with Receiving and suppliers to address count discrepancies.
  • Receive design modifications for production items from the Engineering Department and distribute updated specifications to suppliers.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable to resolve pricing discrepancies.
  • Engage with Design Engineers on prototypes to establish pricing and delivery timelines.
  • Assist in monitoring supply chain metrics, including Supplier On-Time Delivery, Purchase Price Variance, and inventory metrics.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by presenting challenges and potential solutions to relevant personnel and may take part in Kaizen events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
  • A minimum of three years of experience in purchasing and/or planning.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of numbers and fractions.
  • Experience in supplier management.
  • Familiarity with MRP systems.
  • Proficient computer and keyboard skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION:

A degree from an accredited four-year university in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The role primarily involves sitting, with the use of hands and arms required for over 60% of the time. Lifting requirements are generally under 10 lbs, with manual lifting potentially reaching a maximum of 50 lbs.
