At the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), we are on the lookout for a dedicated professional to enhance our Strategic Deterrence Mission Area's Systems Engineering Group within the Force Projection Sector.
Your Role:
As a Strategic Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and evaluating requirements, crafting architectures, and developing analytical tools. Your expertise will be crucial in creating test plans, analyzing test data, and conducting trade studies, requirements analysis, functional analysis, and performance assessments for advanced strategic weapon systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide systems engineering expertise with a focus on requirements analysis, concept development, risk assessments, and test & evaluation for strategic deterrent systems.
- Utilize analytical tools to assess weapon system capabilities and assist in the formulation of future weapon system requirements.
- Engage in design and requirements reviews, delivering domain expertise through research, studies, and analysis of current and future weapon system capabilities.
- Prepare and present formal reports to stakeholders, effectively communicating proposed concepts, solutions, and analytical results.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this role, you should possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related technical field.
- Experience in systems engineering, particularly in early concept development, requirements analysis, design, testing, and risk assessment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, coupled with critical thinking abilities.
- A proven track record of collaboration within multidisciplinary teams, including industry and government partners.
- Willingness to travel periodically for short visits to sponsor offices and contractor sites.
- An active Secret security clearance, with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates who excel will have:
- An advanced degree in systems engineering.
- Experience with missile systems engineering.
- Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes and Navy/Air Force strategic programs.
- Knowledge of systems engineering software, particularly model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools.
- An active Top Secret security clearance.
