Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Safety Technician to join our team at the University of Houston. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting safety trainings and inspecting safety equipment in University buildings. They will also maintain detailed records of all equipment, populate departmental databases, investigate accidents and incidents, and support other EHS discipline-specific areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct safety trainings for faculty, staff, and students
  • Inspect facilities, work areas, and equipment to ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Verify fume hood functionality on campus
  • Test safety showers and eye washes on campus
  • Coordinate and verify biosafety cabinet certifications
  • Assist with activities and inventory of survey meters and dosimetry badges
  • Populate departmental databases and generate reports from databases
  • Investigate incidents and accidents to identify causes and prevent future occurrences
  • Provide services related to handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials, as needed
  • Assist with respiratory fit-testing

Requirements:

  • Associates degree and 1 year of experience in a related field
  • Specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures, practice, routines, or techniques in a specific area or trade
  • Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to use computer databases
