Job Overview:

This role is essential in supporting the Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM) and the fire service across Arizona on various operational matters. Responsibilities include communication, administration, procurement, and the collection and analysis of training data. The position will oversee the management of the Arizona National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS), which is set to transition into the National Emergency Reporting Incidents System (NERIS).

This position may allow for remote work within Arizona, depending on the department's operational needs and the consistent achievement of performance standards.

The State of Arizona promotes a work environment that emphasizes flexibility, independence, and trust. Many employees across various state agencies engage in the State's Remote Work Program, enabling them to work from home, in offices, or in shared spaces. All work, including remote tasks, must be conducted within Arizona.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Administering the NFIRS software for over 130 fire departments, which includes training and guiding local fire departments to fulfill reporting obligations and ensuring the quality of their submissions.
  • Engaging with non-participating fire departments to encourage participation, managing user accounts, and providing support for login issues.
  • Attending relevant meetings, preparing performance reports for budget considerations, and maintaining documentation for budget allocations and expenditures.
  • Representing the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) at various meetings and maintaining training records for OSFM staff.
  • Coordinating fire prevention education initiatives and distributing educational materials for public events.
  • Driving for state business as required.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Fire department operations, including public safety education, fire suppression, and emergency medical services.
  • Standard office applications and data management systems.

Skills in:

  • Data analysis and statistical methods.
  • Effective communication, both written and verbal, with diverse audiences.

Ability to:

  • Manage data integrity across multiple platforms.
  • Exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships while ensuring confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in curriculum development, project management, or related areas.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

A valid Arizona Driver's License is required for this position. Employees operating vehicles for state business must maintain a current and valid driver's license and meet all training and record check requirements.
