About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Security Officer to join our team at CapMetro. As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for providing law enforcement-related services to our transit system, ensuring the safety and security of our passengers and employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned areas by vehicle or other means to prevent and respond to security incidents.
  • Investigate unusual or suspicious conditions, traffic accidents, or complaints, and take appropriate action to resolve the situation.
  • Issue traffic citations and warnings as necessary.
  • Provide protection for transit property and assets.
  • Write reports on investigations, offenses, arrests, and activities.
  • Prepare probable cause affidavits, books, and guard prisoners.
  • Communicate with the public, respond to inquiries, and provide assistance as needed.
  • Testify in court as required.
  • Disperse unruly crowds and maintain order in emergency situations.
  • Perform surveillance of businesses or citizens as necessary.
  • Set up tactical positions and emergency response for special missions.
  • Operate data terminals, communicate by radio, and monitor transmissions.
  • Report problem areas and facilitate solutions to improve security and safety.
  • Enforce federal, state, and local laws, and support the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Safety Management Systems (SMS) process.
Requirements
  • One (1) year active service in the Austin (TX) Police Department as a Police Officer.
  • Currently employed by Austin Police Department under current agreement with Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (CMTA) to provide such services.
  • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) Requirements, Sec. 211.80 Minimum Standards for Licensing.
  • Valid and current Class C Driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of criminal law, investigation, statutes, ordinances, and crime prevention methods.
  • Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, and FCC rules and regulations regarding radio communication.
  • Knowledge of good safety practices in the care and use of firearms.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem-solving.
  • Skill in operating motorized vehicles.
  • Skill in operation of two-way radio equipment.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of criminal law, investigation, and crime prevention techniques.
  • Ability to quickly recognize and analyze irregular events.
  • Ability to administer first aid and CPR.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle under emergency conditions.
  • Ability to write legibly and to read.
  • Ability to maintain physical endurance and agility standards.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with city employees and the public.
