As an Employment Specialist at FORTUNE SOCIETY INC, you will play a vital role in assisting individuals in finding, securing, and maintaining employment. This position involves providing career counseling, job search assistance, and support services to both job seekers and employers. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and a strong understanding of labor market trends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Career Counseling: Conduct one-on-one employment counseling sessions with program participants to assess their skills, interests, and employment goals. Develop personalized job search strategies and career development plans.">
  • Job Search Assistance: Assist participants with editing their resumes, cover letters, and interview techniques. Support them with on-site and off-site job/resource fairs.">
  • Employer Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with local employers to identify job openings and employment opportunities. Create employer engagement events to increase new employment opportunities and placements.">
  • Placement Support: Match participants with appropriate job openings based on their skills and qualifications. Provide guidance and advocacy throughout the hiring process. Support case managers in obtaining post-placement retention verification.">
  • Record Keeping: Track and evaluate the process and outcomes. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of participants and employers' interactions in our database.">

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of one - two years of experience working in social service, criminal justice, or workforce programming.">
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.">
  • Skilled communicator who can liaise interdepartmentally as well as with community partners, employers, and stakeholders.">
  • Knowledge of up-to-date labor market trends and resources is a plus.">
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.">

Work Environment

This role requires travel throughout New York City. A flexible schedule is necessary to accommodate the needs of our participants and employers.

Compensation
