Job Summary

The State of New Mexico is seeking a highly skilled Highway Maintenance Worker to join our team. As a key member of our public works department, you will be responsible for operating medium to heavy-duty equipment to repair and maintain US and New Mexico highways and roadways throughout District Three.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate medium to heavy-duty equipment to maintain interstate roads, roadways, and highways for the safety of the traveling public.
  • Utilize hand and power tools to maintain medium to heavy-duty equipment, interstate roads, roadways, and highways.
  • Perform operator-level preventive maintenance checks and services on equipment and tools.
  • Use a computer to perform tasks and maintain records.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with varying weather conditions and exposure to hazardous materials.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of experience maintaining roads and operating medium to heavy-duty equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within one (1) year of hire.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a physically demanding environment.
Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions, including hot or cold temperatures, humidity, wind, rain, and snow. The position requires exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, and hazardous materials. The worker must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a physically demanding environment.
