About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled CNC Machinist to join our team at Plasma-Therm. As a CNC Machinist, you will play a critical role in producing high-quality machined parts, setting up and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines, and maintaining quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain Safe Operations: Adhere to OSHA safety procedures and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Operate CNC Machines: Enter instructions, set tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches, and program parts using CAD/CAM software.
  • Set Up and Maintain Equipment: Install and adjust three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers, and indicate vices and tram heads.
  • Plan Machining Operations: Study work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters, and interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Maintain Specifications: Observe drilling, grooving, and cutting operations, take measurements, detect malfunctions, troubleshoot processes, adjust and reprogram controls, sharpen and replace worn tools, and adhere to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintain Equipment: Complete preventive maintenance requirements and follow manufacturer's instructions.
  • Document Actions: Complete production and quality logs.
  • Identify and Implement Process Improvements: Work collaboratively with the CNC Programmer and Production Manager to identify and implement CNC program process improvements and process improvements in the shop.
  • Train Coworkers: Train coworkers who are less skilled to develop a more effective and productive team.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience with CNC machines required.
  • Skills: Must be able to set up jobs on your own, read blueprints, work to close tolerances, and have good mathematical skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Formal apprenticeship desired, live tooling experience, CNC Vertical Mills and Horizontal Mills, Lathe Setup experience, knowledge of HAAS controls, excellent verbal communication skills, functional and technical skills, conceptual skills, attention to detail, good judgment, ability to solve problems, and contribute to the creation of new solutions.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • The normal work environment is typical of a machine shop with many moving parts and is typically noisy.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • The incumbent is routinely required to stand (85% - 90% of the days is spent standing), walk, stoop, kneel, touch, see, and hear, and may be required to lift or move up to 35-50 pounds; over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Safety steel-toed shoes are required.
  • While performing the regular duties of the position, the incumbent is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, the risk of electrical shock, and possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The incumbent must be able to wear safety equipment and follow safety instructions.
