About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Forensic Psychologist II to join our team at the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). As a key member of our psychology department, you will play a critical role in providing expert forensic evaluations and assessments to support the treatment and care of our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct advanced and/or managerial psychological work, including forensic evaluations and assessments, to support the treatment and care of patients.
  • Develop, support, and coordinate forensic psychological activities and programs to ensure the highest level of care for our patients.
  • Provide consultation and training to staff on forensic psychological assessments and evaluations, as well as on the application of forensic evaluations in competency restoration commitments and safe community discharge planning.
  • Supervise the work of others, including graduate psychology trainees, to ensure the highest level of quality and expertise in forensic psychological assessments and evaluations.
  • Work effectively as a member of the psychology management team to reduce the use of restraint and seclusion through the implementation of strategies that promote trauma-informed care and empower individuals to actively participate in their treatment.
  • Provide expert testimony to courts regarding forensic psychological evaluations and assessments.
  • Participate in the hospital quality assessment performance improvement activities, auditing records, evaluating performance indicators, and developing plans of correction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including actively participating in disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
Requirements
  • Must be licensed as a Psychologist by the State of Texas or a reciprocity state.
  • A doctoral degree based on a program of studies whose content is primarily psychological in nature (transcript indicates a major in psychology) or its equivalent from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • At least one (1) year of supervised experience by a licensed psychologist in the field of psychological services, including experience conducting forensic evaluations and standard psychological assessments with forensic populations in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience conducting individual and group psychotherapy with forensic populations in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
  • Knowledge of forensic psychological assessment and treatment of the seriously mentally ill forensic populations.
  • Knowledge of psychotherapy and CBT, DBT, behavior therapy, and other empirically supported psychotherapeutic modalities.
