Position Overview

Primary Objective:

The individual in this role is an essential member of the Patient-Centered Medical Home team, contributing significantly to the delivery of patient-focused healthcare. Responsibilities include assisting healthcare providers and the team in the comprehensive coordination, preparation, examination, and treatment of patients. The role requires performing the essential competencies expected of a medical assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviews patient records prior to appointments
  • Reminds patients of their scheduled visits as needed
  • Confirms completion of prior orders
  • Ensures all necessary documentation is available
  • Identifies and addresses gaps in patient care

Check-In Duties:

  • Conducts check-in procedures promptly and accurately
  • Records vital signs and other health metrics with precision
  • Updates information related to meaningful use and PCMH requirements
  • Implements clinical procedures as per established protocols

Check-Out Duties:

  • Executes check-out procedures efficiently and accurately
  • Administers medications as prescribed by the healthcare provider
  • Assists with basic wound care as required
  • Facilitates patient referrals when necessary
  • Completes laboratory orders with attention to detail

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Prepares examination rooms for patient visits
  • Manages inventory of medical supplies
  • Completes necessary documentation
  • Follows up on missed appointments and reschedules as needed
  • Sterilizes, labels, and organizes medical instruments
  • Handles communications with patients, staff, and community agencies
  • Schedules appointments as required

Operational Duties:

  • Operates basic medical equipment
  • Maintains accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Collaborates with healthcare providers and team members to enhance patient care

Consistent and reliable on-site attendance is essential.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned
  • Participates in PCMH meetings, educational programs, and training sessions as required
  • Exhibits exceptional customer service to patients and providers, promoting a positive image of Kalihi-Palama Health Center
  • Provides input for quality improvement initiatives
  • Arrives at work on time and informs supervisors of any delays or absences
  • Answers phone calls promptly and takes accurate messages
  • Welcomes constructive feedback during evaluations and demonstrates a commitment to improving job performance
  • Maintains and enhances personal skills and knowledge
  • Adheres to safety and security protocols, reporting any unsafe conditions and using equipment properly

Minimum Qualifications:

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and interpret data
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current, valid Medical Assistant Certification
  • Completion of a one-year accredited Medical Assisting program
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification

Experience:

  • Prior experience with basic computer systems is required
  • Familiarity with basic medical terminology is essential
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred
