Position Summary

The Leather Cutter is tasked with manipulating various materials to outline, mark, and trim patterns for items such as furniture, clothing, or accessories. This role involves working with both skins and tanned hides, utilizing shears or a cutting table. The Leather Cutter plays a crucial role in evaluating the leather, selecting optimal cutting areas, positioning components accurately, and ensuring that cut pieces meet specified quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize work by collecting and categorizing leather rolls and patterns.
  • Prepare leather and patterns on the cutting table.
  • Outline, mark, and cut leather or skins into components for various products, including garments and their embellishments, using appropriate cutting tools.
  • Position patterns on leather or skins to optimize the number of cuts.
  • Lay leather on the table, align dies for maximum efficiency, and use a mallet to cut out components.
  • Utilize a kick press for hole punching when necessary.
  • Inspect materials for quality assurance.
  • Operate various machines to size and cut leather according to established specifications.
  • Ensure product quality by reviewing finished items.
  • Maintain an organized, detail-oriented, and proactive work routine.
  • Keep the workspace clean and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Contribute to team objectives by achieving related results as required.
Qualifications
  • Prior experience in leather goods manufacturing is preferred.
  • Willingness to learn all job responsibilities within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities.
  • Basic measuring skills are essential.
  • Ability to read and write proficiently.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands outlined here represent the requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While executing job duties, employees are frequently required to stand or sit for extended periods, with some walking involved. Regular communication is necessary, and repetitive physical motions will be part of the role, involving the use of feet, legs, arms, wrists, hands, and fingers. The position may require lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs when necessary.
